Fellow 360 Evaluation Tools

Programs must use other raters in addition to attending physicians to assess fellow performance. Of course, quality of information is better than quantity when implementing a multiple rater assessment process, so it is important to carefully select raters.  Suggested types of raters include:

  • Patients;
  • Peer residents/fellows (or trainees from other programs with whom your residents work closely);
  • Nursing staff (i.e. someone with regular contact with resident/fellow, i.e. dedicated clinic, unit or lab nurse).  May also ask a manager to aggregate data from multiple members of nursing staff to create a balanced set of feedback;
  • Technicians, technologists;
  • Mid-level providers (focus on collaborative skills);
  • Medical students
