Description: This video demonstrates the application of effective questioning to accurately assess a learner’s knowledge and understanding at the bedside. Using a 2X2 table the presenter will review multiple domains of question types including, recall, synthesis and analysis, general knowledge, and application. The presenter will explore our tendencies to ask questions in one single domain and demonstrate how to rephrase questions for broader identification of learners’ knowledge gaps.

Objectives:
1) Assess learners using effective questions
2) Recognize our tendencies to use a particular style of assessment questions and the limitations of a single style
3) Rephrase assessment questions to ensure multiple domains are covered
